QUESTIONS ?

What is Barefoot Massage?

Barefoot massage is an ancient specialty massage, which involves the practitioner's feet to perform the bodywork. It incorporates applying long flowing, deep, comfortable strokes into the massage experience.

Where did Barefoot Massage originate?

Barefoot massage is a modality of massage that has been used to help people around the world for over 3,000 years. It originated and has been used customarily in regions of Japan, India, China, Fiji, Philippines and Hawaii. There are various styles of barefoot massage, which typically include some form of balancing prop or overhead bar system.

What to expect during a Barefoot Massage?

Barefoot Massage will be performed on a wide, comfortable, hydraulic table under a uniquely-built bar system. A portion of the massage will include the therapist’s standing on the hydraulic table with you. The remaining portion of the massage will be performed from a stool.

What are the benefits of Barefoot Massage?

  • During the session the practitioner will incorporate the use of their full body movement. Implementation of the distribution of weight and strength into the flow of the massage, results in a naturally deeper experience for the client.

  • The pressure is distributed throughout the broad touch of the foot, which allows clients to remain more comfortable. This gentle and relaxing touch opens the opportunity for deeper bodywork with better end results.

  • The surface area of the feet are larger than the hands, elbows, or forearms; therefore, each stroke is more expansive and also more lengthy.

  • The muscle tension relief from a Barefoot massage is longer-lasting than traditional massage techniques, due to the greater muscle compression and decreased pain that the clients experience from bare feet.

  • Some of the strokes help to elongate the spine and stretch shortened muscles, for a greater potential of relieving client’s discomfort.

  • Long, consistent compression releases muscle adhesions, trigger points, and chronic holding patterns; which in turn, encourage the body’s natural healing potential.

  • The heel of the foot can naturally replace the standardized use of the elbow traditionally used in massage practice, because it is more expensive and soft.

  • The rhythmic movements in Barefoot Massage may help stimulate the lymphatic system.

Will hands be used during Barefoot Massage?

The Massage Therapist will only use hands for holding the bars, draping the sheets, and while massaging the client's scalp and/or face.
